MY VISION

Edward Agbai envisions a thriving, inclusive, and sustainable community for Ward 7.
His campaign focuses on key areas that matter most to residents:

DRIVING CHANGE AND BREAKING BARRIERS

Edward Agbai has the ability to significantly impact on his community which stretch not only within Ward 7 but across Saskatoon, Canada, and America, and are truly impressive. His work in addressing cultural and linguistic differences, creating awareness, and fostering opportunities for community involvement and development has been appreciated by many. His active participation in various boards further underscores the scale of his contributions.

AFFORDABLE HOUSING

I will champion policies that optimize affordable housing that meets all residents' needs, at every stage of life.

PUBLIC SAFETY

Our campaign is centered around community-centered approaches for safer and healthier neighborhoods, because everyone deserves to feel safe, included, and valued in our community. I will address issue such as: Crime, Safer Playground, Homelessness, and Shelter.

INFRASTRUCTURE & TRANSIT IMPROVEMENT

I will advocate for improved infrastructures and plans that prioritizes reliable and accessible public transit and safety for pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers. Improved snow removal mechanisms in the older neighborhoods and communities, sidewalks, back alley, and underground drainages. I will prioritize relevant projects, ensuring prudent use of tax payer money.

INCLUSIVE GROWTH

I will champion diversity, equity, and active participation in civic life within our communities. I will ensure concerns and the voice of residents are heard.

SUPPORT FOR BUSINESSES

I will support strategic plans that provide incentives for businesses to thrive. My vision for the City as a Councilor is to bring support to the interests and priorities of our people, including the business community, to raise the business positivity of owners as well as the confidence of aspiring entrepreneurs across all industries.

A proposal to the combined business community of Saskatoon

by Dr. Edward Agbai

Friends, Partners,

In the forthcoming elections, our province faces a decision that could drive the much-needed growth or continue its decline among the other provinces and territories. It is common knowledge (and the statistics are there to prove) that in the past five years, specifically between 2019 and 2024, we have recorded an annualized GDP growth of 1% with a population of over 1.2M, a national ranking of 10th and a GDP reaching C$80.3Bn. A granular reflection of the sectoral/industry movements indicates the impact of extant fiscal and economic policies on Saskatchewan and our people of Saskatoon.

As a policy and program expert, my vision for the City as a Councillor is to bring support to the interests and priorities of our people, including the business community, to raise the business positivity of owners as well as the confidence of aspiring entrepreneurs across all industries by ensuring the following:

  • Business Longevity – We must work hard to stem the number of businesses closing in our City. While the data oscillates between 174 and 250 annually, the impact of business closure has an overarching effect on employment and the well-being of our society.
  • The unemployment rate, a direct result of the absence of new businesses, decline in active businesses, or exits of old businesses, is a pressing issue that demands a stronger response from the Government. Our Provincial growth has been at a negative 1.9% between 2019 and 2024, a figure that does not align with our economic potential.  The City must take decisive action to reverse the unemployment trend in various industries, including retail trades, arts, entertainment  &  recreation, nonresidential and residential construction, transportation & warehousing, agriculture, forestry, fishing and hunting, and business support (including Information Technology) and waste management, all of which have seen  negative growth in the last 5 years.
  • Franchise Development—Our City offers opportunities for small and large franchises. The City must become attractive to willing and able entrepreneurs who want to partner with leading brands in other major cities in Canada and overseas. A great incentive would be the revision of tax credits and other provincial costs, which form part of the associated start-up costs for such businesses.
  • Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion—Another critical aspect of my proposal is promoting Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in the business landscape. Businesses owned and operated by various social and ethnic communities in the City must be allowed to thrive. Business owners from the broader immigrant community, both new and old, should be able to access business permits and zoning licenses with minimal requirements to open for business. This inclusivity should extend to all business areas, including Healthcare Institutions, Distribution, Hotels, Education, and Other unspecialized services.
